Boys Basketball

As all fall sports come to an end, winter sports athletes are preparing for their upcoming seasons. One team in particular is QO’s boys basketball.

Head coach Mac Mintrum only joined the team last year, but he has made significant improvements to the program. Mintrum has been in the Montgomery County area as he coached for Seneca Valley in the past. The boys played an incredibly competitive season last year and are predicted to come back even stronger this season. They play one of their toughest games at home on December 21 against Seneca Valley.

After losing in the first round of playoffs last season to Urbana, the team is looking to advance further this year and win the regional championship. They have been practicing together for multiple weeks to enhance their chances of doing just that. The boys have played into two tournaments together, and only improved after each game. Senior Cristian While said that during the first tournament, the team “built the chemistry,” and by the second, “we were communicating better.”

Along with tournaments, the team also holds workouts three times a week, which involve lots of cardio, a necessary component to the sport. With all of this time spent together, the team has a close bond. “Everyone gets along,” said While.

The team can’t wait for fans to pack the stadium and cheer them on to victory. Come support the team during the season opener, away at Damascus High School on Dec. 5.
